Top Ten Tuesday: Fairytale Retellings I've Read/Want To Read

Top Ten Tuesday is a feature hosted by the Broke and the Bookish.

Today the topic is "Fairytale Retellings I've Read/Want To Read". I have not read a lot of fairytale retellings and I can't say I liked many of these ones...so most of the books here are on my TBR pile.
First off, let's start with the fairytale retellings I've read and loved...and those are only two...

“Maleficent” by Elizabeth Rudnick
This is a retelling of Sleeping Beauty in which Maleficent is one of the good guys...kind off...I prefer this take on the story because the "True Love's Kiss" is more realistic and the story is better in my opinion.

This is actually not a typical fairytale retelling, but it has everything in it: the "bad" wolf (above), the hunter from Snow White and Snow White herself, a kind of Rapunzel. The book is based on the mini TV series with the same name and it's really good.

Now, let's move on to the retellings I want to read...I might choose some classic retellings...

“Ella Enchanted” by Gail Carson Levine
This is a retelling of Cinderella and I have actually watched the movie and loved it, but I didn't know that there was a book.

“Beastly” by Alex Flinn
This is a retelling of Beauty and the Beast and it's not a new book, but my sister watched the movie and told me it sucks...so she killed my desire to read the book a little bit. I still want to read it, but it's not my top priority.

“Daughter of the Forest” by Juliet Marillier
I've heard about this book on youtube and I think it was retelling of Seven Swans. Like all of the Hans Christian Anderson tales this one is also very sad...and I love sad stories...so if the book is anything sad, I will like it.

This is a book with dark stories based on fairytales such as Red Riding Hood, Bluebeard, Puss-in-Boots, Beauty and the Beast and so on. It has a high rating on Goodreads, so I want to read it.

“Scarlet” by A. C. Gaughen
I think this is some kind of a retelling of Robin Hood and I think I will like it. And the book cover is great...just saying.

I think this is a retelling of Beauty and the Beast and I've heard nothing, but good things about it on youtube, so I want to try it out as well.

“The Name of the Star” by Maureen Johnson
This is not a retelling, but since it's about Jack the Ripper I just had to mention it. I know this is cheating but...oh well...please, forgive me.

“The Lunar Chronicles” series by Marissa Meyer
I'm sure everyone have read this already and I want to read this series as well. It has to happen in the near future.

Those were my top ten fairytale retellings that I've read or want to read with some cheating books here and there. Tell me what you think about my picks in the comments and if you have a blog post about this topic, share a link and I'll be happy to read it!

  3. I'd love to read The Bloody Chamber at some point. I've heard such great things about it. I kind of want to read Ella Enchanted, too, as I've heard great things about it. I've only read Beastly from your list, and it wasn't a fave. Still, I did go on to read another one of her fairy tale retellings, so it couldn't have been all bad. :)
