#TBRTakedown 2.0 Wrap Up

For me this read-a-thon is officially over since I won't be able to finish anymore books for the remaining four hours. I am very pleased that I was able to complete all of the challenges and not only that, but I liked all of the books that I've read.

For the first and second challenges which were to read first book in a series and to read sequel book in a series I chose "Daughter of Smoke & Bone" and "Days of Blood & Starlight" by Laini Taylor.
These books were amazing and I can't wait to start the last one. Usually I don't like books with angels, but these were great. The story, the characters, the writing style...just everything.

For the third challenge which was to read a book out of your comfort zone I chose "The Ice Dragon" by George R.R. Martin.

It was not as brilliant as I wanted it to be, but it was still a pleasant read. The pictures were wonderful.

For the fifth challenge which was to read a book that was sitting on your shelf for over a year I chose "Maleficent" by Elizabeth Rudnick which I loved. To be honest I prefer this take on the story for the Sleeping Beauty.

The last challenge was to read your most recently hauled book. Since I wanted to watch the movie I chose to read "Paper Towns" by John Green.
I really liked the book. It's definitely not better than "The Fault in Our Stars", but I enjoyed reading it. The movie on the other hand was a complete train wreck in my opinion.

Disney Princess Book Tag

I've always loved watching book tags on youtube but reading them is also kind of fun so I decided to do one.

I stumbled upon "Disney Princess Book Tag" on paperfury and I really liked it so although I wasn't tagged by anyone I decided to do it anyway :)

So, without any further ado let's jump into the tag...

SNOW WHITE: NAME YOUR FAVOURITE CLASSIC

I have not read a lot of classics, but one of my favorites is "A Little Princess" by Frances Hodgson Burnett. I've read it for the first time when I was still in high school and I really loved it. I have plans on rereading it hopefully soon.

CINDERELLA: NAME A BOOK THAT KEPT YOU READING PAST YOUR BEDTIME

The most recent one I can think of is "The Warded Man" by Peter V. Brett. It is full of action and really fast paced so if you have not read it give it a chance.

AURORA: NAME YOUR FAVOURITE CLASSIC ROMANCE

I have to choose "Pride and Prejudice" by Jane Austen for this one. Not only is the book my favorite  but the movies are also great and I've watched them million times.

ARIEL: NAME A BOOK THAT’S ABOUT SACRIFICES AND FIGHTING FOR YOUR DREAMS

This might seem a strange choice to some of you, but I feel that this book just screams sacrifices. It is a really emotional book with unexpected ending.

BELLE: NAME A BOOK WITH A SMART, INDEPENDENT FEMALE CHARACTER

For this one I'm going for Lyra Belacqua from "His Dark Materials" by Philip Pullman. I thought Lyra was amazing and really smart for her years.

JASMINE: NAME A BOOK WHOSE CHARACTER CHALLENGES THE SOCIAL CONVENTIONS OF THEIR WORLD

This might be another not so very popular character - Elizabeth Woodville from "The White Queen" by Philippa Gregory. I chose her because she was not supposed to mary the king, but she did and a lot of people hated her for that and later on in the novels she was proclaimed a witch along with her mother. If you have not read this series - do it because they are awesome...and if you do, don't do it by publication order but by the the chronological order given in Goodreads.

POCAHONTAS: NAME A BOOK WHOSE ENDING WAS A ROLLER COASTER OF EMOTIONS

The biggest WTF ending in the universe goes to "The Fault in Our Stars" by John Green and if you've read the book, you know exactly what I mean.

MULAN: NAME A BOOK FEATURING WAR OR BATTLES

The battles in "A Dance of Cloaks" by David Dalglish are between the thief gangs and the rich people...but not only...and the main character rocks...

TIANA: NAME A BOOK FEATURING A HARDWORKING, SELF-MADE CHARACTER

I know I've already chosen a book from the same series but I don't care. For this one I have to choose Inevera from "The Daylight War" by Peter V. Brett. She is not a very nice person but I can't help it...she just fits into this category perfectly.

RAPUNZEL: NAME A BOOK FEATURING AN ARTIST

I've just finished "Daughter of Smoke & Bone" by Laini Taylor and it's amazing. Karou is definitely an artist so this was just perfect.

MERIDA: NAME A BOOK WITH A MOTHER-DAUGHTER RELATIONSHIP

I know Maleficent is not the mother of Aurora, but they had such a lovely mother-daughter relationship that I just couldn't resist picking "Maleficent" by Elizabeth Rudnick for this category.

ANNA AND ELSA: NAME A BOOK THAT FEATURES A GREAT RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SIBLINGS

Last but not least for a book with great siblings' relationship I choose "Harry Potter" series by J. K. Rowling...because the Weasley siblings are my favorite of all time and I don't know a person who doesn't want to be a part of this loving family.

#TBRTakedown 2.0 TBR

I've decided to participate in another read-a-thon! Yay!

I'm going to take part in the #TBRTakedown 2.0 which is from July 25 to July 31 and is being hosted by Shannon of leaninglights on Youtube. You can find the announcement video here. In the #TBRTakedown 2.0 you should choose books from your physical TBR shelves in order to complete five challenges:

1. First Book in a series
2. Sequel Book in a series
3. Out of your comfort zone (genre, author, reviews, etc)

"Dayghter of Smoke & Bone" series has been on my TBR for ages, but I've been waiting for all of the books to come out because I absolutely hate waiting. Now that I have all of the books in the trilogy I can finally read them.

"The Ice Dragon" is going to be the out of my comfort zone, since it's a middle grade book and I don't read those type of books often.

I've read a couple of books by John Green and I've only liked "The Fault in our Stars". I will give "Paper Towns" a chance because I want to watch the movie.

Top 5 Wednesday: Side Characters That Deserve Their Own Series

Top 5 Wednesdays was created by the booktuber gingerreadsLainey for the booktube community, but now bloggers also have a chance in participating. If you are interested in Top 5 Wednesday, there is a Goodreads group where you can find a list of participants as well as Top 5 Wednesday topics.

This Wednesday the topic is "Side Characters That Deserve Their Own Series" and I'm not sure if I want this characters to have their own series but at least one book about them will be good :)

Peter Kavinsky from "To All the Boys I've Loved Before"
I've just finnished this book and I loved Peter. I would like it if there is a book from his POV because he is sooo cute and it will be so much fun to read it.

Zusa from "Shadowdance" series
Zusa is so sassy and badass and such a good fighter. I would love a book about her life before "Shadowdance" and how she became such an amazing person.

Daniel Grigori from "Fallen" series
Now, I absolutely hated this book but throughout the whole thing I was thinking that it would have been so much better if it was from Daniel's POV...so yeah.

Jean-Claude from "Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter" series
While I don't like Anita's character...like at all...I love Jean-Claude and I think that a book from his POV will be great.

Albus Dumbledore from "Harry Potter" series
Well, who wouldn't want books about him. I mean, he is awesome and funny and wise and I would love a book about his story. J.K. Rowling needs to start writing a series about him ASAP...

Top Ten Tuesday: Books That Celebrate Diversity/Diverse Characters

Todays topic is "Books That Celebrate Diversity/Diverse Characters". Now this is an interesting topic. I have read that kind of books but not as many as I would have liked. Still, I found even more than ten that deserve to be in this list.

“Still Alice” by Lisa Genova

This is a heartbreaking book about a woman with Alzheimer’s disease. I have never read a book in which the main character suffers from this disease so I didn't know what to expect...I was crying almost throughout the whole book. If you haven't read it - do it - because it's way better than the movie.

“The Phantom of the Opera” by Gaston Leroux

I've watched the movie a thousand times - it's one of my absolute favorites. There is no need to say that I love the Phantom. How can you not?! I know he is not the best person in the world but he has gone through so much and despite all the bad things he does I still think he is a good person who just needed to be loved...

“Angelhead: My Brother's Descent into Madness” by Greg Bottoms

I stumbled upon this book in the library and I'm so happy I did. Not only is the story about a boy suffering from schizophrenia, but it's a non fiction. It's very well written and very, very real. This is not a very well known book - it has like 550 rating on Goodreads, but if you have a chance to read it - do it.

“Sarah's Key” by Tatiana de Rosnay

Ths is another heartbreaking book and it's about the Holocaust. Like any other book about this topic it's not a happy one and it's not easy to read because you know that even if it's fiction those kind of things did happen. Again, if you have a chance to read this book - do it, because it's really, really good.

“Dark Walker” by Hikaru Yura and Hirotaka Kisaragi

This is yaoi novel with very, very explicit content. For those who don't know what yaoi is - it's a Japanese genre of fictional media focusing on romantic or sexual relationships between male characters. It's not for everyone, but it's definitely my guilty pleasure. I haven't read that much books in this genre but I love them all and this one is among my favorites. 

“Last Chance Saloon” by Marian Keyes

This book is one of my favorite chick-lits. It's about a group of four friends and one of them is gay - and it's also like the funniest character in the book. It was my first Marian Keyes book and it's very well loved (after 1-2 more reads the book may start falling apart). If you are into chick-lits and you haven't read this one - give it a chance.

“The Glass Castle” by Jeannette Walls

This book is a memoir and I chose to include it in the list beause it's really well written and the story is about people living in absolute poverty. The parents do not take care of their children - like not at all - yet the children manage to prosper when they are old enough to leave their parents behind. The story is very real and you can actually feel for the characters.

“Wonder” by R.J. Palacio

There was no way not to include this book. I have no doubt in my mind that everyone who've read it loves Auggie - the main character of the book - a child with facial abnormality. There are no words - I still got tears in my eyes when I think about this book. It's so sad - Auggie just wants to have a normal life and friends and all that good stuff, but it's not easy for him to have those. I feel that anybody who reads this book will become a better person after finnishing it.

“Me Before You” by Jojo Moyes

Another heartbreaking book. It is a contemporary romance, but it's very well written and I feel that even if that's not your cup of tea you will love this book.

“House Rules” by Jodi Picoult

This is one of my favorite Jodi Picoult books. It's about a kid with Asperger's syndrome and his way of thinking is different from the normal people...and that kind of gets him into trouble. He is misunderstood a dozen of times just because his perception of truth is a little bit strange. He is such a nice person, although his feelings and thoughts differ from what people think is normal.

THIS WEEK’S RANDOM QUESTION: Are you able to read while in a vehicle (in motion)? Have you always been this way?

So, up next I I'll read either "Pilgrim" by Timothy Findley or "Crescendo" by Becca Fitzpatrick, because it's good to return them to the library before the end of the month.

As for the random question, it really depends. For example, I don't have problem reading in a bus but I really hate reading in the car because our roads here in Bulgaria suck and the rides tend to be really shaky. If the roads were better (like in Vienna for example) I would have read in the car a lot.
I don't remember if I have always been like that, but that's the way I am now...

Well, this was my jar surprise for this month...and I did not like it...at all. I've read non fiction before and I don't have anything against this genre, but this book was boring. The story was all over the place so I was really confused when the author switched from one story and time period to another. I had no idea what was going on...

And all the names...oh my God...the names...They were way too many and way to similar. I know that all this people are part of the history but I literally felt like drowning...
Overall opinion - DON'T READ THIS BOOK!!!

Book Review: "Neverwhere" by Neil Gaiman

I've read Neil Gaiman's book before and I was not impressed so I was not expecting to like this one...surprisingly I did enjoy it a lot. It was some kind of mixture between "Alice in Wonderland" and "The Master and Margarita" but better.

The story was well written and very captivating. There were a few surprises in the book that I did not see coming which was a good bonus.

The characters were well developed and some of them very unpredictable (yes, I'm talking about Marquis de Carabas - he was so adorable). I also liked the villains - one of them creepy and the other a little bit stupid but both were great team.

The only thing I did not like about this book was the ending - and here I mean the way in which the main villain was defeated. I did not see it coming but it was way too easy.

#CramAThon Wrap Up

Since this summer #CramAThon is now over I've decided to share with you what books and which challenges I've managed to complete. For those of you who don't know the challenges were:

1. Read a children's book

2. Read a hardback

3. Read 2 books in 24 hours

4. Read a graphic novel

5. Read a book written in verse

6. Read a novella

7. Read 5 books total

and I've completed 5 out of this 7 challenges.

For challenge #1 I've read "The Miserable Mill" by Lemony Snicket.

I really liked the book. It was not as creepy as the first book in the series which I enjoyed the most until now, but still it was a pleasant read. 

For Challenge #2 I've read "The Chambermaid" by Markus Orths.

I've wanted to read this book for such a long time and I can't say that I liked it. It was really really strange read and for me the story started nowhere and was going nowhere. It was a quick read but not at all enjoyable.

Challenge #3 I've managed to complete on the first day by reading the two book from challenges #1 and #2 as well as the book from challenge #4.

For challenge #4 I've read "07-Ghost" Volumes 3 and 4 by Yuki Amemiya and Yukino Ichihara.

I really love this series. The art is beautiful, the characters are well developed and the story is captivating. If you haven't read this one - do it, or at least watch the anime (which is by the way not finished).

In order to compelte challenge #7 I've read some random short books: "Dracula" by Bram Stoker, "Burned Alive" by Suad and "Big Fish: A Novel of Mythic Proportions" by Daniel Wallace.

I really enjoed "Dracula" as a story and writing style. Sometimes I found some of the characters actions rather stupid but those moments were just a few so didn't ruin the book for me.

"Burned Alive" was a book that deal with a really heavy subject and I always give this books high rating even if I didn't like the rating style that much - as in this case. The title says all you need to know before reading the book so if it's not too much for you, go ahead and read the book.

"Big Fish" was kind of a children's book with a bunch of stories in it. I didn't know anything about it when I started it and I still have no idead what I've read. It's not something I would recommend.

2 in 1 Book Review: "Jane Eyre" by Charlotte Brontë and "Wuthering Heights" by Emily Brontë

Since those novels are written by sisters and I have really similar feelings after reading them I decide to make this a 2 in 1 book review.

I must say I really really enjoyed reading these books and they were really fast reads. I loved the writing style of both Charlotte and Emily Brontë and in my opinion the stories they wrote were very similar.

They were both kind of dark and not happy at all. The characters were also not very likeable. and had really really big flaws, and did not act very nice. They were really well developed but I just ended up hating all of them. Please, don't hate me for that :)

In the end I did love the books and they were written beautifully so I gave both of them high rating on Goodreads. If you haven't read those books, give them a try and you might like them. And if you've already read the book, please, leave a comment if you had the same feelings about the characters and the stories as I had :)

#CRAMATHON TBR

#CRAMATHON is created for the booktube community by WhittyNovels in order to reach or at least get closer to finishing your Goodreads challenge and I found out about it on PeruseProject booktube channel. I'm already 7 books ahead of schedule but this looked really fun so I wanted to participate (even though I don't have a booktube channel).

For this #CRAMATHON (which starts on July 10th at 12 AM midnight and ends on July 13th at 11:59 PM) there are 7 challenges:

1. Read a children's book

2. Read a hardback

3. Read 2 books in 24 hours

4. Read a graphic novel

5. Read a book written in verse

6. Read a novella

7. Read 5 books total

Hopefully I will manage to complete these challenges and below are some of the books that are going to help me do that.

The children's book I will pick up is "The Miserable Mill" ("A Series of Unfortunate Events" #4) by Lemony Snicket. I don't know if that is cheating since I will listen to the audiobook...oh well. I may also continue with book 5 after that since audiobooks are quick to finish.

"The Chambermaid" by Markus Orths will be my hardback pick. I've wanted to read this one for so long but they've never had it in the library, so finally I bought it myself. I couldn't find an edition of the book in English on Goodreads...may be it's not translated. This is the bulgarian cover and it's actually the edition I have.

And last but not least "07-Ghost" Volume 3 by Yuki Amemiya and Yukino Ichihara is my graphic novel pick. I'm loving the series so far...well, I've watched the anime and it's one of my favorites, so of course I like the manga.

So, this is my TBR for the #CRAMATHON for now. I will keep you updated on my progress with another blog posts since I don't have a twitter...

Top 5 Wednesday: Things on your Bookshelf that Aren't Books

This Wednesday the topic is "Things on your Bookshelf that Aren't Books" and I had a really hard time with this one. I am going through a bookshelf reorganization kind of thing and I want to get a new bookshelf cause I don't have space anymore. My top 5 will be my favorite things that I want to be on my shelf but are not necessarily there at the moment :)

So...I don't actually know what kind of animal is this...but it's really fluffy and I love it. And those books behind it are my parents' and are really really old and some of them are falling apart. But this will be on my new bookshelf when I get one :)

This is a candleholder with owls and I will never use it but it's really, really pretty :)

I have two of these B-shaped bookholders which I bought from Ikea and I like them. And currently they hold the falling apart copies of the "Harry Potter" books - they are very well loved...

This is a gift from my colleagues from my ex job and it's a really lovely sheep...and I still have not managed to break it which is a miracle.

Last place is saved for my dog-shaped money bank...with no money in it. I used to use it for all my coins but now it's just laying on my bookshelf being pretty :)

There are a lot of books I have not read yet and I really, really want to - some of them hyped, some of them nobody knows of. For this Top Ten Tuesday I will share with you only ten of the hyped books I've never read.

“Throne of Glass” series by Sarah J. Maas

I've heard really great things about this series and I have the first three books...but I hate waiting so I will probably read those books when the rest of the series are released.

“The Book Thief” by Markus Zusak

This book is well loved by everyone, so I should finally read it. This will happen this year...I promise.

“Mistborn” series by Brandon Sanderson

Again, I've heard nothing but good things about this series and I should read the books soon.

“The Lunar Chronicles” series by Marissa Meyer

May be I'm the only one who haven't read this series yet.

“Shatter Me” series by Tahereh Mafi

I really don't know what's wrong with me. Why haven't I read this trilogy yet. It sounds so good and everyone raves about it. It needs to happen.

I actually forgot about this trilogy until this year when I bought the last two books :D I will definitely read the books this year.

“Eleanor & Park” by Rainbow Rowell

I've heard that all of the books by this author are very, very good so I can't wait to read this one (it's the only one I have and hopefully I will like it).

“Gone Girl” by Gillian Flynn

Another really well loved book...and it's a mystery and I relly like those. I also have "Dark Places" and "Sharp Objects" so I'll be really grateful if someone could tell me which one is the worst and which one - the best. I don't want to start with the best one and then get disappointed by the rest (this already happened with John Green's books).

“Legend” trilogy by Marie Lu

Yet another series that I've never read. I'm really hesitant to start book series because I don't know if I will like them but even if I don't I will need to finish them...I'm just masochistic like that.

“To All the Boys I've Loved Before” by Jenny Han

Last but definitely not least is this book. And everybody loves it. And I actually have it on my Kindle and I didn't know that :D I will read it this year...hopefully.

I liked this trilogy, but I can tell that it's more appropriate for younger audience, so I did not enjoy it as much as I would have if I was a kid. Still, it was very easy to read, the stories were very interesting and unique and well written.

All of the books in this trilogy are with different stories so they can be read separately.

Personally, I liked "The Watcher in the Shadows" the most - it was the scarriest of them all, but I prefer the tragic endings in "The Prince of Mist" and "The Midnight Palace".

The character development was not verry well done, except for the villains who were my favorite part of the books. They were described very vividly and it was not hard to imagine and to be afraid of them.

Overall it was a good trilogy, but I wish I've read it when I was younger.
